Sweden’s Emma Johansson makes history at first ever Women’s Tour Of Britain.

History was made yesterday when Swedish racer Emma Johansson became the first ever winner of the Friends Life Women’s Tour Of Britain yellow jersey.

She narrowly beat World Champion Marianne Vos to the finish line on stage one, which was a fast paced 57 mile rollout from Oundle to Northampton.

The media were doing their best to drum up a rivalry between Marianne Vos and Olympic Silver medallist Lizzie Armitstead .When asked if she [Armitstead] was closing the gap on Vos she replied “...Yes, i’d like to think so anyway, I want to World Champion…I think a lot of the peleton will want to close the gap too

British favourite Laura Trott didn’t perfom too well yesterday due to her nursing a sore throat, she came in at 39th overall.
