Read the remarkable story of Robert Marchand, the 102 year old cyclist!

We stumbled across this remarkable story recently, and thought we’d share it with you!

Most people Robert’s age are used to meals on wheel, not breaking records on them, but that’s exactly what this 102 year old cyclist has done.

Two years ago, French retired fire fighter Robert Marchand set a record in the over 100s category, by riding over 15 miles in one hour, and this year he smashed his own record by riding nearly 1.6 miles further!

He crossed the line arms aloft and smiles aplenty, the crowd in the Velodrome gave a standing ovation and the paparazzi papped away. Marchand, aided by two assistants said “It was very good, but at the end it became very hard”  and he also said he couldn’t have done it without the help of the public “You have to know there are people who came from 600 kilometers away to see me today! It is incredible. That’s all I can say,”

This isn’t the only record Robert holds either, he also has one for an over 100 year old riding 100km, which he completed in 4 hours, 17 minutes and 27 seconds in 2012.

This gent is an inspiration, everybody reading his story should feel fuelled to go out and ride and break a few of your own records, whether it’s that hill that has your legs screaming, or that illusive distance that you’ve fallen short of a few times. Whatever it is, go and get it!

Here’s the footage of him on the velodrome.

Thanks for reading, what do you think of Roberts monumental feat? Let us know!
